If people have fewer heart attacks in France, it may be because the lifestyle is more geared to enjoying life, than to working your way up the ladder.
Also, the French are social, spending much time with family and friends (a good deal of it at the table relaxing, eating, drinking, and chatting), so they may suffer less from problems associated with isolation and inadequate social contact.
France is a beautiful country (as is much of Europe) and life is generally pleasant (if not dynamic and exciting like New York, for example).
I live in New York, and the concrete and ugliness, and stress have been getting to me. You don't live in New York for la dolce vitta, but generally to get somewhere. Compared to Paris, for example, it is harsh here.
With regard to fewer heart attacks in France, also, up until recently, most of the food was not very processed as it is in the US. It is only since McDonald's, etc have landed in France that there have been more overweight people there. Not too long ago, everybody was thin in France.
